Project Introduction

As part of its commitment to maintaining pipeline integrity and ensuring uninterrupted product transportation, Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited engaged Melcurt Limited to carry out the replacement of aging EGBA clamps along the 20-inch Rumuekpe–Nkpoku Trunkline (TNP) at Ibaa, Rivers State.

The project involved the identification, excavation, verification, removal, and replacement of existing EGBA clamps at multiple defect locations with industry-approved PLIDCO clamps. The intervention was aimed at enhancing pipeline reliability, restoring optimum flow efficiency, and extending the operational lifespan of the pipeline while maintaining strict adherence to safety, environmental, and engineering standards.

Engineering Insight
“Pipeline integrity is not only about repairing defects; it is about ensuring long-term operational reliability through precise engineering execution, quality materials, and uncompromising safety standards.”

— Project Engineering Team

Scope of Work

The project covered the complete replacement process of existing EGBA clamps at identified defect locations along the pipeline corridor.

Working Process

The project was executed through a structured engineering methodology designed to ensure quality, safety, and operational efficiency.

01
Step

Site Identification & Excavation

Following permit approvals and site verification, all defect points were located, flagged, and excavated using mechanical excavation equipment. Existing clamp conditions were confirmed through physical inspection and survey verification.
02
Step

Surface Preparation & Defect Exposure

After exposing the pipeline sections, existing clamps were carefully removed where required. Surface preparation activities including cleaning, plugging, decoating, and inspection were carried out to prepare the pipeline for repair installation.
03
Step

Clamp Installation & Torque Application

New PLIDCO clamps were fitted on the prepared pipeline sections. Bolting, flogging, and torqueing activities were completed according to specified engineering requirements to ensure proper sealing and structural integrity.
04
Step

Recoating, Backfilling & Restoration

Following successful installation and verification, the repaired sections were recoated using Polyken wrapping systems. The excavated areas were then backfilled, restored, and cleaned, returning the site to its original condition before demobilization.

Project Outcome

The project was successfully completed across all identified repair locations with the installation of nine (9) replacement PLIDCO clamps. All activities were executed within the planned schedule while maintaining full compliance with HSE requirements.

HSE Performance Highlights

  • Zero Fatalities
  • Zero Lost Time Injuries (LTI)
  • Zero Total Recordable Cases (TRC)
  • Zero Road Traffic Accidents (RTA)
  • Zero Security Incidents
  • 100% Compliance with Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
  • 100% Personnel Medical Fitness Compliance

Conclusion

The EGBA Clamp Replacement Project on the 20-inch Rumuekpe–Nkpoku Pipeline at Ibaa was completed successfully through effective planning, skilled execution, and strict adherence to safety and quality standards. The replacement of aging clamp systems with modern PLIDCO clamps significantly improved pipeline integrity and operational reliability.

The successful completion of this project demonstrates Greenspan Concepts' commitment to delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality pipeline maintenance solutions that support the long-term performance of critical oil and gas infrastructure.
